NUC Unchained: Exchange to London

Are you ready for a “New Urban Adventure”?! From October 26th until November 3rd New Urban Collective (NUC) will organize an eight day trip to the vibrant city of London for 25 – 30 youths from Amsterdam and London with diverse cultural backgrounds. In the Netherlands we commemorate 150 years of the abolishment of slavery in the Dutch Kingdom, and 180 years in the United Kingdom.

During the exchange we will seek to learn lessons from the rich history of Africa and its Diaspora, the influence of slavery and current issues such as social inequality, discrimination and cultural diversity. In addition, we will focus on personal development and empowerment. Through an exciting and interactive program we aim to exchange knowledge and practices that will help you to understand these issues and achieve your ambitions and goals.

Participant’s profile

  • 18 to 30 years old
  • Students and graduates (MBO/HBO/WO)
  • Highly motivated
  • In the possession of a passport valid for six months after arrival in the Netherlands
  • Interested in the African Diaspora and related social issues
  • A member of New Urban Collective
  • Affinity with NUC’s mission and vision is a must

Competences

  • Proactive self-starter as well as a team-player
  • Communication skills in English and Dutch
  • Creative and able to think “out of the box”

 We offer:

  • A flight to London and accommodation (own contribution of  €150,-)
  • Workshops, excursions and lectures about issues such as social inequality, discrimination, social movements and cultural diversity
  • An unique educational experience to learn about the history and contemporary  African Diaspora in the Netherlands and the UK during Black History Month in London
  • An opportunity for personal development and an international experience

A selection will be made based upon your motivation letter. When selected, you will be invited in the week of September 30th for an interview.  Please note that all participants are required to attend two preparatory meetings on Saturday October 12th and 19th (dates may be subject to change).
